5 Steps To Fixing Daily Fatigue
Fatigue is something we all have to deal with once in awhile and it can be very difficult to get on top of once it sets in. It is more than just being exhausted, which is why you need a serious treatment plan before it can get on top of you and your health. Here are five steps you can take to reclaim your health and get on top of fatigue.
- Get the Bigger Picture
Fatigue can be tricky, because it can often be hard to pin down what exactly is causing it. One important step can be to map out your health and do a few simple tests to see if you have any conditions or food intolerances that can easily explain the unpleasantness. Going to see your GP for a check-up is a good idea, or if you like the idea of exploring natural medicine, get in touch with a service like curamedicine.com.au.
Food intolerances can be a common cause of fatigue and illness. When you are unaware that your body does not react well with some foods, the effect of the intolerance can be accumulated over time and progressively become more severe. Other conditions that fatigue is commonly associated with are a variety of mental health issues, it is important to keep in mind that anyone, at any age can be affected by poor mental health and that it is treatable and often curable.
Something else that you may not have thought of is that fatigue is an early sign of pregnancy and can occur in even the first week of conception. That is why it is important to get a full workup and determine the cause of your fatigue so that it is less likely to become an ongoing issue.
- Meet Your Nutritional Needs
Once you have ruled out the serious stuff, beating fatigue may be as simple as ensuring you are getting all of the vitamins and minerals you need to function well. This amount is different for everyone as we all have different lives and bodies that demand different things. Ensure that you are eating enough healthy food and not over indulging in the less nourishing stuff. Some specific things that might help you get over your fatigue include:
-Iron
-Vitamin C
-Potasium
-Magnesium
Increasing your consumption of some or all of these nutrients may help you get back to feeling energised throughout your days.
- Stay Active
When fatigue hits you probably just want to give in and rest but overly sedentary lifestyles can actually bring the fatigue on. The key is to persevere with your routine and continue with/ introduce some basic exercise into your week. A minimum of 30 mins per day, for five days out of the week is enough to reap the health rewards of exercise. That includes helping minimize stress and helping to regulate your sleep. The 30 mins become even more important if you work in an office environment or from home and you don’t otherwise move around very much.
- Introduce a Routine
For those of us who are fatigued due to being to sedentary or as a side effect of mental illness introducing a routine into our days can be extremely helpful to begin to introduce some extra activity and to reduce stress. Both of these things can aid in the reduction of fatigue. The goal is to slowly introduce more and more things into the routine as you become comfortable.
Maybe to start you will aim to do one household chore, one load of dishes and one fun or creative thing each day. Once you are finding that you do those things easily you introduce the exercise and even aim to have things done at certain times. If that sounds really easy you can be much more detailed or plan to have more things in your day. As long as you have some kind of consistency it should be beneficial.
- Get Enough Sleep
Whilst this one may seem obvious for a lot of people, getting enough sleep is easier said than done. There are 101 reasons why it might not be happening, but it is super important to try and prioritise it. Like nutritional needs, there is no hard and fast rule for what ‘enough sleep’ means for you but there are a few things that will help most people get there:
- Try to go to bed at the same time each night
- Cut out the use of screens in bed
- Have a wind down routine
- Keep your bed and bedroom clean and comfortable
These things are helpful but don’t work for everybody, if you are having too much difficulty getting your sleep under control you can discuss other options with a doctor.
Fatigue may be common but it is certainly not the easiest thing to deal with, hopefully it is just something you will be able to fix on your own and is not something that becomes a bigger issue in your life. We hope our list has been helpful and good luck!
