ASUS ZenWatch 2
The ASUS ZenWatch 2 is a trendy smartwatch that offers modern convenience and style with the all the functionality of a smart watch plus more.
Made from high quality Stainless steel, it features a 1.45″ AMOLED touch screen display panel and is available in two different screen sizes to cater for both males and females. It comes with a three-point clasp for additional safety which I like and appreciate.
The ASUS ZenWatch 2 further offers the ability to customise your smartwatch with 3 colour choices and 5 strap options. Each ASUS ZenWatch 2 can quickly and easily swap and change straps as you wish, which is great as you can dress them up or down to suit your mood or outfit. You can also choose and change the watch face display to suit your preference whenever you want through the ZenWatch 2 phone app.
The ASUS ZenWatch 2 offers so many features for someone looking for a smartwatch that I cannot list them all, so below are the smart capabilities I found most useful.
As a busy mum, I’m constantly running around, unfortunately I tend to forget where I put my phone (or the children have moved it) so I love the Find My Phone or Find my Watch. Using the smart technology in the watch, you can vibrate your watch with your phone or call your phone through the watch to find its location. In addition to this the ZenWatch 2 can vibrate when you go too far from your phone to remind you that you forgot your phone. Furthermore, the ability of being able to tell your phone to call someone is great when on the run, as my Bluetooth will pick up the call in the car and I don’t need to rummage through my bag to find the phone.
Business Assistance – You can get notifications of the latest events/activities on your phone including Facebook/Social Media updates, emails and missed calls information. While you cannot answer or read complete emails, getting the updates is great to see quickly and easily if you need to address any issues. In addition to this there are other ASUS ZenUI apps that you can download to optimise the functionality of your smartwatch, telling you what’s next (tomorrow’s weather/activities) or to remind you to do something at a later point.
Smart Assistant – Offering a similar service to Siri, you can talk to your watch and ask Google to provide you with the answers to your questions. You can text a friend or make a call. I found that the ZenWatch 2 recognised my words well and I didn’t have issues with it picking up incorrect words. There is also a weather option where you can swipe to see the weather, however this is a bit of a miss as although it showed the correct weather for Sydney it showed the degrees in Fahrenheit which doesn’t help me. Apparently there is a setting where this can be changed, however I couldn’t find it.
Fitness Capabilities – As I was previously wearing a Fitbit, I was excited at replacing it with a smartwatch that could then also offer information on my daily steps and fitness. While the watch does have a ‘wellness’ app and feature, I found it limited in the information it provided. It really only tells you the number of steps that you have taken and the kcal that you have burned. You can add workout information to it, however I miss knowing the active minutes that I have done and the understanding of how many calories I have burned against what I should be burning. It does have an interesting idle alert feature where your ZenWatch 2 will vibrate after a period of inactivity to encourage you to get up and start moving.
I have found the smartwatch easy to work with and it is responsive to my touch. For me, the watch is light enough to wear and doesn’t look chunky. ASUS offers an elegant looking smartwatch that suits me whether on the field watching kids or out for dinner. The price of the ASUS ZenWatch 2 makes it a great, affordable Android Wear option. The battery lasts for up to two days and is easy and quick to charge with a magnetic charger that just clips on the back of it that will have it fully charged in just over 1 hour.
