Philips Lumea Prestige IPL Treatment
I cannot lie, I love laser and IPL Treatment for hair removal. It’s fast, mostly painless and very effective at permanently (mostly) removing unwanted hair.
The biggest negative for many mums with Laser removal treatments is the high cost for treatment. Luckily developments in technology mean that you can now take advantage of at home IPL hair removal devices like the Philips Lumea Prestige at a fraction of the price.
The Philips Lumea Prestige takes advantage of IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) to reduce hair regrowth. IPL systems offer a form of light therapy (not as intense as laser) which uses multiple wavelengths to target pigment within hair follicles. Through repeated use, the amount of hair regrowth reduces and with occasional maintenance treatments you can be smooth and hair free for longer. Developed in conjunction with dermatologists, the Philips Lumea Prestige offers safe IPL treatment in the comfort and privacy of your own home.
Before your Home IPL treatment
The Philips Lumea Prestige needs to be fully charged which will take just over 11/2 hours. You can then remove the charging cord and the Lumea Prestige IPL system offers cordless convenience. This is essential when you are moving it around in all different directions to hit the target areas. The battery is quick and easy to charge, however it is somewhat limited as after 2 half legs and 2 underarms on setting 3 it was out of battery and needed to be recharged. Using the Philips Lumea Prestige
Using the Philips Lumea Prestige was extremely easy and could be done with either hand. It offers both a ‘stamp and flash’ option and a ‘slide and flash’ option. The slide and flash option is ideal on larger areas as you just old the button down and move slowly over the skin waiting for the flash to be ready. The machine only takes 3.5secs to get the flash ready, making the treatments quick. It took me 20minutes to do 2 x half legs and 2 x underarms.
The Philips Lumea Prestige is virtually painless. Only occasionally did I feel a slight pain in sensitive areas. As IPL is less intense than laser, the pain level is much less and treatments more regularly are advised initially to get the best results. It is also super quiet. I was able to give myself a treatment while hubby slept on the couch next to me without him even knowing!
The light from the IPL treatment is safe for eyes, however I chose to wear sunnies while performing some of the treatments as I found this more comfortable.
The Philips Lumea Prestige is safe for use on large and smaller more sensitive areas and comes with two attachments. The larger one offers a 4cm window for faster results on areas like your legs while the smaller (facial) attachment is 2 cms wide and offers a special light filter for safe use on the face and more sensitive areas. The Lumea Prestige offers 5 adjustable light energy settings which you can adjust to give you the best results for your skin tone and comfort level.
After using the IPL system, you can pack it away in the provided pouch which will keep it and all the accessories protected and together.
Philips Lumea Prestige Results
To test the Lumea Prestige and report accurately on results I tested it on my legs, underarms and hubby’s back. Hubby’s back was essential to gain a true idea of its effectiveness as my legs and underarms had also previously had laser – his back had not. After 2-3 treatments I noticed a dramatic reduction in the amount of hair regrowth and what did regrow was generally finer as well.
I loved the ability to tailor my treatments. I have been having laser treatments at the salon for a while on my lower legs.
While my legs are responding well, my knees were not. With the Philips Lumea Prestige I was able to pull the skin taunt and really focus on the knee area moving the IPL treatment machine around to give me better results and I noticed a good improvement in this ‘hard to treat’ area.
Another benefit of utilising the Philips Lumea Prestige for at home IPL treatments was that I could treat hubby. He would never step inside a beauty salon and while I don’t want him completely hair free a reduction in certain areas would be great and he was more open to doing this in the privacy of our own home.
Another benefit of using the Philips Lumea Prestige for at home IPL treatments, is that I can get ready for summer in winter. This means that when Summer comes, I can just enjoy it.
