How many of these “Must Watch” TV Show have you missed?

Every so often, there is a TV show that transcends the small screen. Rather than just being a simple televisual event, it becomes a cultural phenomenon. You’ll see it referenced everywhere you turn, from Buzzfeed quizzes to in depth analyses on The AV Club.

The definition of “must watch” TV shows is, of course, highly subjective. What falls into this category depends on the viewer and their preferences, but there are a few shows that seem to cross all demographics.

It’s easier than ever for TV shows to cross cultural boundaries. Where once we had nothing but our own countries’ offering, now we have more choice than ever. With streaming services, we can view both home grown shows and then expand to US Netflix for even more choice. There’s no reason to be left out anymore, so grab a little adults-only time and settle in for a binge watch if you have missed any of these classics.
Breaking Bad
Widely considered to be the best TV show of all time, Breaking Bad was a cultural phenomenon during its five-season run. Chemistry teacher Walter White partners with a former student to create a methamphetamine operation, all while trying to dodge the eyes of his law enforcement brother-in-law. It’s a harsh critique of the drugs trade, while providing an insight into the levels hubris can push a human to.

Why Is It So Good? Intricately plotted, complete with some of the most delightful acting you will even see. Bryan Cranston as White is one of the most defining portrayals in TV history.
Game of Thrones
With teasers now available for its sixth (of eight) season, the world is soon to be swept into Game of Thrones fever once more. Set in an alternate reality, Game of Thrones is a story of politics, humanity, and a little bit of magic thrown in there for good measure. It’s an enthralling ride featuring some of the most beautiful scenery in the world, with a dark plot weaved in between.

Why Is It So Good? Following a variety of different storylines, there’s never time to be bored. Watching how all these different links connect together, with a few surprises along the way, make for avid viewing.
Buffy: The Vampire Slayer
Given it has recently celebrated its 20th birthday, anyone who is new to Buffy will be surprised to see how relevant it remains. While it’s set in a world of magic and vampires, the themes explored – especially in the first three seasons – are of a very grounded, real-world variety. The show follows the eponymous Buffy, who learns of her destiny to kill vampires. Of course, nothing goes smoothly, with the seven-season long show exploring all the implications of such a theme.

Why Is It So Good? ‘Buffy’ is a rare show that can make you cry both with laughter and with sadness. It uses its mythical basis for real-world storytelling fables, with great performances from the cast. With great pro-female overtones, the show is a feasible watch for the entire family.
