VTech My Zone Laptop
Designed for 3-6 year old’s; the VTech My Zone Laptop can help your child prepare for school or simply have a bit of fun.
With two older children; I liked the idea of having a tech toy I could give to my youngest (4.5 years) that he could be proud of and that would help him prepare for school next year. I thought it would be great for him to use his computer while his siblings were doing Mathletics on the other computer.
When we opened the box, Master J was super excited and couldn’t wait to try it. The laptop is sturdy which is important for little hands that carry it everywhere and tend to drop it from time to time. It has pads underneath to keep it from slipping on the table surface, equally important so we don’t disturb concentrating kids. Both the letter buttons and the slider to move from one category to another are easy for little children to do. There is a question mark button which repeats that action that your child has been asked to take. If you get the answer wrong, your friend in the computer simply says “Oops, please try again” or “Not quite, let’s have another go”.
In the My Zone Laptop, your child can create their own profile with a name, avatar and birthday.
I like how the computer helps your child to learn by prompting them with an action to take and then reinforcing their choices by sounding out the letters as they type them and then repeating the whole word.
Within the learning, it offers so many options for your child that they will always find an activity/game to enjoy regardless of their mood. In the alphabet, it offers a number of activities from the basic where the computer helps your child with phonics as it says the letter, sounds out the phonic sound and then shows and tells you of something starting with that letter, to a game of Letter order, Missing letters and more.
Within shapes, I like that it helps you to explore certain types of shapes, to count shapes, undertake number quizzes and more. There is also a section covering animals and fruits and another section for logic and games and finally a music section. The Music section can get quite a laugh as when you press the letters, it inputs animal sounds.
The games are basic, yet fun and importantly educational.
I loved watching Master J get excited as he worked out the correct answers. You can also press a button to get the answers if you are struggling. Master J is 4.5years and he really enjoyed some of the activities as he counted and got the shapes right. The VTech My Zone Laptop offers questions and information perfect for pre-schoolers and I like that if they keep getting it right, it makes the questions a little harder.
The VTech My Zone Laptop does not however offer the fun games that the children enjoy playing on phones or tablets, yet I view it the same as my older children doing Mathletics. It isn’t as fun as just playing games; however, it is equally important and with a balance of both, everyone is happy.
As the parent, I like that you can adjust the brightness and importantly the sound levels. I also like that the laptop helps my little one feel big, while strengthening his problem-solving skills, knowledge and abilities through puzzles and games. It also sits at a great price point for a tech toy that can be carried around.
So, if you are looking for a tool to help your pre-schooler expand their knowledge or prepare for school, take a look at the VTech My Zone Laptop.
