Recovery Essentials I Wish I Had After My C-Section Delivery

Childbirth is a special and unique experience for all mothers. But did you know that you will need more time for recovery after having a C-section delivery as compared to vaginal childbirth? The road to recovery can be a long process. It can take as much as six weeks for your body to heal after a cesarean birth. Pain, discomfort, and stress are normal during this period. Personally, it was a nerve-wracking experience for me and I wish I had known earlier that there are actually products now that can help new moms get back on their feet after cesarean delivery. Whether you are preparing for your upcoming delivery or just looking for ways to ease your current condition, it is best to invest in essential products that can help you feel better and more comfortable so you can spend more time with your baby.

Check out our list of helpful items that can help ease your recovery.

C-Section Maternity Underwear

There are so many types of maternity underwear in the market. Back then, I thought they were all the same so I shrugged it off and resorted to wearing my regular cotton panties. However, recently, I found out that there is actually underwear that is specially designed for women who have had a c-section delivery. These types of underwear are designed to provide ample support and comfort without causing any irritation and discomfort that comes with elastic waistbands that can be found in regular underwear. It can also reduce the swelling of your incision and ultimately flatten it. It’s a comfortable fit and the material protects your sensitive post-surgery skin and minimizes scarring. C-section underwear can also help decrease excess fluids and help your uterus return to its original size.

Lift Recliner Chair

A good night’s rest is vital in any healing process. One of the hardest challenges after my c-section delivery was getting up and finding a comfortable position to sleep. Your abdominal muscles are particularly weak and sensitive at this point so moving around can be very uncomfortable. After doing quick research, I discovered that purchasing a lift chair or a recliner for your home can also be extremely beneficial for women recovering from c-section delivery. These types of chairs are perfect for people with post-surgery mobility issues. Not only does it help you easily get up and sit down, but it is also helpful in finding a comfortable breastfeeding position. Some lift recliner chair models even double as vibrating massage chairs, which is great as you will be finding yourself in need of such relaxation for a while.

Stool Softener

The first bowel movement after childbirth can be extremely uncomfortable. I have survived it, but it is no walk in the park. It also does not help that one of the most common side-effects of a c-section delivery is constipation. The possible causes include the anesthetic used during the surgery, narcotic pain medications, the iron in prenatal supplements, and weakened pelvic muscles. Constipation is quite risky as it can irritate your incision. I wish I knew sooner that a stool softener can make the experience more tolerable and less daunting. Before undergoing cesarean delivery, make sure to talk with your doctor about your options that will provide gentle relief and smoother postpartum bowel movements.

Scar Treatment

Scar Treatment - Recovery Essentials I Wish I Had After My C-Section Delivery

Part of your c-section recovery is getting a scar. Scar sheets are popularly used to protect incisions from irritation. There are several scar-removal products available in the market today, but it is important to know what to expect. Topical ointments and skin sheets may not completely remove the scar, but there are also other options like laser therapy that can help with your issue. To minimize scarring, consult with your doctor about the creams, gels, salves, and other products you can safely use.

Abdominal Binder

Despite the popular belief, binders do not help you lose tummy fat. However, they can definitely help women who have recently given birth to recover faster. Doctors have long prescribed abdominal binders for mothers who went through c-section to help ease discomfort, reduce post-surgery pain, boost their confidence, and reduce psychological distress. It can also provide support and improve one’s posture.

For faster healing and optimum comfort, investing in good products that can improve your condition after a c-section delivery is extremely important. However, before purchasing anything, it is best to consult with your doctor to know what items would work best for your condition. Generally, the discomfort of having a cesarean lasts from a week to ten days; using these products will help make your recovery smoother.
