4 Best Series and Films For Kids (And Adults) On Netflix
Let’s be honest, many children’s movies are complete nonsense that might be amusing for the kids, but a complete waste of time for the parents. However, there are many series and films nowadays that manage to be light and fun for the kids, but also enjoyable for the adults too!
Of course, we all want our kids to read books and keep an active imagination, but sometimes you just want to throw on a movie or show if everyone is tired or the weather is horrible.
To ensure that both you and your kids have a great time watching something entertaining, we’ve put together a list of family-friendly movies and shows that we just know everyone will love.
Don’t forget to make the event unforgettable with drinks, popcorn, and these fantastic ideas that will turn a room into your own cinema for a truly special night.
The Mitchells vs. The Machines
What Netflix says: “A robot apocalypse put the brakes on their cross-country road trip. Now it’s up to the Mitchells — the world’s weirdest family — to save the human race.”
What we say: It’s weird, but it’s wonderful. The true meaning of family shines forth in M vs. M, as each member plays an important role in the movie from start to finish.
It bridges the gap well between the smartphone generation and parents still trying to figure out all that new-fangled technology. However, the core of the story is about a family uniting in the face of adversity. Plus, a lot of laughs and silliness along the way.
And that dog… well, he’s more important than it seems at first!
Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts
What Netflix says: “Making her way in a world of mutant animals, a sheltered yet scrappy girl learns to survive — and discovers her powers — with help from a ragtag crew.”
What we say: Kipo is enchanting and gripping from the very first scene, and even though the story is told over three seasons, we were sad that it had to end at all.
Kipo has a perfect mix of adventure, story, absurdity, and even some catchy musical numbers along the way for good measure. Kids will enjoy the bright colours and larger-than-life characters, but adults will be pleasantly surprised by the tale that unfolds over the seasons.
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

What Netflix says: “After being bitten by a radioactive spider, Brooklyn teen Miles Morales gets a crash course in web-slinging from his alternate-dimension counterparts.”
What we say: Yeah, yeah, there are way too many superhero movies and you’re probably sick of them all. But don’t disregard this Spider-Man movie just yet, as it’s probably the best film about the famous web-slinger ever made.
It contains a lot of action and drama, certainly, but there’s so much heart in this animated Spider-Man movie. Miles Morales is just a typical American teenager trying to live his life juggling family, school, and girls, but things undoubtedly get complicated when he obtains the powers of a superhero.
You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll gasp, but for sure you’ll be captivated.
A sequel is scheduled for release in 2023, so there’s more Spider-Man fun just around the corner if everyone in the family loved this movie!
SpongeBob SquarePants
What Netflix says: “From his pineapple home base under the sea, SpongeBob and his friends, including his meowing pet snail Gary, get into memorable misadventures.”
What we say: Okay, SpongeBob isn’t as deep as others on this list and you can kind of switch off your brain when an episode is on. But that’s not to say you won’t have a good time! It’s crazy and unusual, but you’ll laugh at the absurdity of it all.
It’s impossible not to love SpongeBob and his idiotic but well-meaning friend, Patrick, as they get up to all sorts of silly adventures under the sea. The episodes are fairly short at around 25 minutes, so you’re not forced to watch the zaniness for very long. Unless you do a SpongeBob marathon after enjoying it so much!
