Book Week: Last Minute Emergency!
Book week is upon us and if you are a last minute kind of mum like me, well… it is time to start panicking! In fact, I had completely forgotten about it until Ms 10 asked me ‘what shall I do for book parade?’ Luckily, her school book character parade is on Friday! So, Google and Pinterest to the rescue!
If you have time to order, Costume Box is a great place to shop. They have a wide range, express delivery option and free returns. Prices go from $39.99 to $179.99. If you are based in Sydney, they have a Click N’ Collect option too from their warehouse at Brookvale. Tip: Halloween is only a couple of months away, why not look for something that could be used for both occasions? Who doesn’t love ‘two for the price of one’?
If you feel a bit more adventurous and are looking for a nice craft project for the weekend, we’ve pinned six easy projects on our Pinterest Book Week DIY :
- Mr Men and Little Miss: Very easy project using cardboard and black marker. You can add other bits and pieces depending on the character (a hat for Little Miss Bossy or white bandage for Mr Bump).
- The Very Hungry Caterpillar: This old favourite of many generations can be recreated with light green and dark green cardboard cut into round shapes, red cardboard for a headpiece to go around the forehead and marker to make eyes and mouth. The antennae can be made out of left-over cardboard.
- The Day the Crayons Quit: By using soft cardboard shaped into a cylinder and more cardboard shaped into a cone-hat, you can have the body and the tip of your favourite colour crayon. You may use a black marker to write ‘crayon’ on it and design some wavy shapes.
- Fancy Nancy: For girls who love fancy stuff, just open her wardrobe and yours and you will surely find suitable items: an old tutu or a flared skirt, a colourful top possibly with sequins, mums old sunglasses, headpiece and a fluffy scarf will be perfect for little Nancy.
- 101 Dalmatians: This Disney classic is actually based on a book by author Dodie Smith who had Dalmatians herself. Have you got an old, white oversized t-shirt or gown? Draw black spots on it and voilà. You may add ears to it, buy cutting some white paper into shape and drawing some more black spots.
- Diary of a Whimpy Kid: An easy option for boys that consists of some black and white clothes and ‘whimpy kid’ mask done with white cardboard (or paper, although not ideal) and black marker.
