Breville & Pete Evans Pizza Oven
Pizza is a beloved dinner at our house as it is just so easy, delicious and a great way to use up leftovers. My hubby loves wood fired pizza and we are always in search of the perfect base or accessory to make the crust thin and crispy. We were therefore very excited to test the new Pizza Oven created by Pete Evans & Breville.

Designed to create an ideal cooking environment to deliver crusty, tasty pizza, the Pizza Oven heats up to 350 degrees Celsius – well above the 280 degrees that your oven is regulated to. This gives the Breville Pizza Oven the ability to cook the pizza base at a higher heat, giving it a crispier crust… mmmmm.
I was lucky enough to attend the pizza cooking class with Pete Evans & Breville where we were taught to make pizza bases (which I had never done before). I was amazed at how simple this appeared to be and liked the thought of homemade rather than store bought. Inspired, I made my own pizza bases when testing the Pizza Oven. The oven worked really well, baking the bases perfectly. A great trick when using the pizza oven is to roll the pizza dough out onto pieces of baking paper and then put the ingredients on. Once they are ready to be cooked you can put them into the Pizza Oven with the baking paper and after 1 minute when the base has hardened you can easily pull the baking paper out (don’t leave it in, it will burn).
I was concerned that the Pizza Oven may be limited to only cooking homemade bases, and as a busy mum, I know there will be times when I simply don’t have time to make the bases myself. Although they didn’t taste as nice as the homemade alternative the oven cooked pre-made bases and ready-made pizzas well.
You can adjust the heat setting of the Pizza Oven depending upon the type of pizza base you are using (thick, thin, etc) so that you get the best results. The Pizza Oven has a viewing window so you can see the progress of the pizza and cleaning is fairly simple as you simply wipe the stone clean (and the elements if need be).
Unfortunately, you can only do one pizza at a time which is limiting, however as they cook quickly – some in as little as 5 minutes – it isn’t too much of an issue. Simply prepare all of your bases and then you can cook, serve and enjoy the pizza as they are done.
