5 Camping Tips: What You Should Know For a Great Time

Going camping is a great adventure which you can either do alone or with the company. Camping is a way to take a break from the everyday hustle and get closer to nature. It can calm you down and destress you, especially if you choose not to use any technology.

Camping is also extremely affordable; some costs lie in purchasing the tent and the transportation, but other than that, you learn how to live with much less than you are used to.

Overall, camping has a lot of advantages; read on for some camping tips you need to know to have a great time.

1. Research the Best Location

While you are planning your trip, be sure to research the best locations for camping. Many regions have fully-fledged camping grounds or sites. There are other regions where camping is allowed in some locations, but they are not made specifically for camping.

If you are camping for the first time and you will be alone, try to find a camping site near you so that in the case of an emergency, there will be people around you to help at all times. If you have camped before or are an expert, then you can look for more remote and calmer locations.

2. Practice Setting Up Your Tent

Setting up your tent can be such a hassle if you are doing it for the first time while camping. Several things can go wrong and you may not be able to fix them during the camping trip itself. One of them being that you are unable to fully set up your tent.

To avoid that though, take your tent to an empty lot or in your home and practice setting it up. You will be able to get any kinks out and learn how to set it up in no time when you do go camping.

3. Look for Water and Sun Proof Tents

Whether you are going to a sunny or a rainy location, finding a tent that is resistant to both will help you take care of your belongings and have a better sleep. Having sun resistant tents will make you feel at home as they are usually a bit roomier and help not get the sun in your face in the morning. Given that there is no “roof” over your head, this will be the next best thing to not get a heat stroke while you are sleeping.

4. Bring Games with You

If you are travelling with other people, then you may get a little bored along the way, especially if you are not used to camping. Having people around you will make you feel like you have to do something, but with the lack of technology, it can get difficult to think of many activities. In this case, you can bring several different games with you to entertain yourselves during the day or before you sleep.

Try looking for fun games that can be fit into bags so that you do not create a heavier load on you or your friends. Card games and foldable board games can be both fun and light so you can take them with you wherever you go.

5. Pack Lots of Snacks and Drinks

When you go camping, you are generally on a site that is not near many stores or restaurants. You must pack a lot of snacks and drinks as it is better to have them and not need them than vice versa. You can try to take a Pelican or a Yeti cooler with you, which will be helpful for at least a day or two to protect your drinks from getting too warm.

Make sure to know which foods are better for camping, especially for your body as you will be out in the wild and not have the luxury of a fully functional toilet!

When camping for the first time, be sure to research everything there is to know beforehand. Given that there may be no cell reception where you are going, you will not want to have surprises or be unsure of what actions to take in any particular moment.

If you are taking a risk and camping in a remote location that is not a camping ground or site per se, then be sure to know how to deal with things in case of an emergency. Camping should destress you and take your mind off work so try your best to take all the necessary precautions to stay in that ‘Zen’ mode.
