Father’s Day 2019 – Zero Stress Shopping for Dad

It’s one week before Father’s Day. How did time slip by so quickly?! There were going to be heaps of opportunities to find him a present…

Saturday 10 am (15 days to go): Dad with 11 yo at soccer, Mum + 7 yo – grab something while grocery shopping… oh, wait, shopping with Miss 7 is impossible! ?

Wednesday RDO (kid free! 11 days to go): Actually, not kid free… 7 yo sick – home from school ?

Thursday (10 days to go): 11 yo – home from school, sick; tried to keep on top of work emails and not feel guilty about leaving Mr 11 on his iPad all day. Both unsuccessful. ?

Friday (9 days to go): dentist appointments (ouch, maybe something homemade fits the budget better this year?..)

Saturday (8 days to go): Mumma’s sick, ? oh wait, but mum doesn’t get to be sick, because the kids still need to be taxied to soccer and piano, friends’ play-dates and we said we’d bring a plate to Uncle Ron’s birthday dinner. OMG, is that the time?!

Sunday (7 days to go): And here we are. The coming week is NOT looking good for present shopping. At least he’s out of the house, but I don’t feel like dragging the two miniature terrorists around the shops today. Wonder whether there’s anything online that will arrive on time?..

How to Find Time for Present Shopping?

Any of this sound familiar? I love the thought of finding something special for him, in person, but every attempt has been thwarted. And then, by the time I realise that options are getting limited and time is running out, I’m not sure whether I can get something online to be delivered on time.

In desperation, I turned to Amazon. We recently signed up as Amazon Prime members because there were a few items we wanted to order and we saw that Amazon Prime gives faster delivery for free, without having to purchase over a certain amount. I hate being a few dollars short of the threshold for free shipping when you shop online!!! It’s a nice bonus that it comes with free access to Prime videos. There’s some good stuff, too. I’m loving Good Omens! Actually, anything with David Tennant is a winner in my books! Prime was free to try for the first 30 days, but it’s not expensive to pay for beyond that, so we’ve kept the subscription going.

Father’s Day Gift Ideas – Online

Back to the Father’s Day gift dilemma! I don’t know about you, but I really struggle to come up with new ideas for gifts for him. He loves tech, but it’s hard to know what’s the latest. Amazon have an area just for Father’s Day gift ideas, all nicely categorised. What was really handy is that I could tick a box to filter by “Prime”, and since we live in a capital city, I know that his gift will get here with plenty of time to spare (normally they get to us within 2 days).

He’s been talking about Smart Home Assistants a lot lately, and I have to say, they do sound nifty. The kids have some friends with them and have told us stories of what they can do. I was a bit worried about privacy, though. Especially if it’s going to live in our bedroom – not sure I want something with an always-on microphone and a video camera spying on us, in our bedroom! I decided to go with the Echo Show 5 in the end (ssshhhh, don’t tell!), because it has privacy controls, so we can turn the microphone and camera off for those *ahem* special occasions when the kids are with the grandparents.

Speaking of grandparents, we finally got the oldies onto Skype, so I can just imagine the kids on birthday mornings opening presents in our bed and then telling Gran and Grandad all about it by video call on the Echo Show 5. I wonder how long it will be before they start asking Alexa to help them with their homework? ?

If, like me, you’re seriously running out of time to get a great gift for him for Father’s Day, check out the Father’s Day Gift Shop on Amazon. And if you’re not yet an Amazon Prime member, it’s free to try, so nothing to lose from signing up!
