Greenmans On the Hawkesbury: Tranquil Camping at Mt White

A weekend getaway is a great way to reduce stress and to enjoy quality family time. Taking the family to a nearby camping location is one of the easiest ways you can reconnect with family and friends.

We recently had the opportunity to visit and enjoy Greenmans on the Hawkesbury.

Located only 30 minutes from Hornsby at Mt White, Greenmans offers a basic camping ground where you can unplug and feel as though you have journeyed deep into the bush while also enjoying the views and benefits of being located on the banks of the Hawkesbury.

After heading down a long windy steep road, you enter Greenmans and immediately feel isolated, tranquil and free from the city. Greenmans do have a small shop within their reception area for any last-minute purchases including wood, ice-cream and milk. Ideal for families with boats or Kayaks, there is a boat ramp located within the camp grounds which provides easy access to the Hawkesbury River. Friends that we meet at Greenmans had boats and enjoyed successful fishing and crab catching while camping there. There are also a few spots where you can fish from the shore. There is wildlife around and the boys loved seeing the Goannas.

In terms of accommodation options at Greenmans; you can either bring your own tent or camper trailer or you can hire one of their caravans.

If bringing your own camping equipment, the sites are generous in size and there is both the option of powered and unpowered sites. The beauty of Greenmans and what we liked most, is that it allows you to feel as though you have gone back to nature, being completely isolated where you could enjoy back to basics camping including the ability to have your own fire (if there isn’t a fire ban) and toast marshmallows, while still enjoying the creature comforts of the amenities provided. The Facilities at Greenmans include: ablution blocks, a laundry, a small pool, an undercover camp kitchen with food preparation area, BBQs and a communal dining area.

The bathrooms were cleaned daily and included a few showers and toilets. Unfortunately, when we visited a camper had accidentally pierced the water lines in two locations and as such we ran out of water around 9.30-10pm in the evening. While this was disappointing, it is reassuring to know that Larry and his team worked to fix the leak and brought in Spring Water to resurrect the water supply for the following day. In addition to this, Larry is implementing new measures to reduce water supply issues in the future.

Camping at Greenmans is well priced with adults costing $20 per night and Children (aged 5-15) costing $10 per night. If you would like a powered site, the cost for this is an additional $5 per night (for up to 5 people).

Overall, if you are looking for a peaceful camping site, surrounded by bush and cut off from the stress of life; Greenmans offers a great way to relax and enjoy a back to nature feel with a few creature comforts.
