Holden Commodore SSV Redline VF Sportswagon

The Holden Commodore SSV Redline VF Sportswagon is the top Commodore Sportswagon.

Offering a stylish, comfortable, practical and enjoyable ride, the SSV Redline Sportswagon is a family car for those who want to enjoy driving without compromising the everyday needs of a family.

Drive
Holden_ssv_redline_sportswagonThe 260kw 6.0 litre Gen iv V8 engine is fast, responsive and powerful. It will carry your family and belongings while still offering an easy to drive, park and manoeuvre car. The ride within the SSV Redline Sportswagon is smooth and snug. It feels like an animal that is well trained; you know the power it has; yet it waits for you to unleash it, and when it does, the SSV Redline is fantastic.

With active fuel management, the V8 is said to have a fuel consumption of 12L/100km which would be possible when undertaking long trips on freeways; however around suburban areas the fuel economy is more likely to sit around the 15L/100km. My trip computer showed an average of 18L/100km which didn’t surprise me as hubby thoroughly enjoyed testing the power of the V8 engine. While hungrier than other family car options, the V8 itself is a feature that many car lovers long for. There is nothing that compares to the feel and pleasure of driving a V8. For those more concerned about fuel economy, other SS Commodore Sportswagon’s are available in V6 versions which achieve a more economical fuel economy of around 9L/100kms.

Holden_ssv_redline_sportswagonDriving the car is extremely pleasurable and fun.

The sports bucket seats are super comfortable and my husband at 6 foot 5 inches fit into the car with room to spare. We could easily fit a booster seat and convertible car seat on the 2nd row with our daughter sitting comfortably in the middle.

In terms of features the Holden SSV Redline offers all the latest features for the driver. With a multifunction steering wheel, paddle gear shifts, trip computer and a comprehensive entertainment system.

Holden_ssv_redline_sportswagonThe Holden SSV Redline Sportswagon offers the MyLink Infotainment system. The MyLink Infotainment system boasts an 8 inch colour touch screen that is compact and stress free to control. From the infotainment system you can access the Rear Parking camera and sensors, Sat Nav along with the music entertainment. It offers USB Input, Full iPod® Integration, AUX Input Jack and enhanced voice control for compatible Bluetooth® devices. It also offers embedded Apps – Pandora® and Sticher SmartRadio™

Holden_ssv_redline_sportswagonI liked how you can dial the phone numbers on the touch screen and do not need to access your phone to make a call. The Sat Nav system is easy and uncomplicated to use and the directions can be seen in the heads up display as well as on the MyLink Infotainment system which helps simplify the journey and the instructions.

Family Friendly Features

Intelligent Safety Features
The car has a number of intelligent safety features to help the driver and make the ride safer. It offers a Heads Up Display (HUD) which projects your speed, the temperature outside and the speed limit onto your windshield, so you can easily see all the key information without taking your eyes off the road. I really liked the HUD and didn’t find it intrusive at all. You can modify it to show some or all of the features along with adjusting the height of the HUD on the windshield to accommodate drivers of all sizes. You can also turn it off if desired. The HUD can also show if you are following the car in front at a safe distance. This forward collision alert is designed to help keep you a safe stopping distance from the car in-front to reduce the likelihood of an impact.

Keyless Entry and Drive
Keyless Entry has to be one of the best features for busy mums. Often with our hands occupied and with the possibility of children running off into the car park if not holding your hand at all times, the keyless entry feature means that you do not need to stand at the car looking for the keys while your children scheme how to escape. You can simply walk up to the door, push the button and open any door to allow your children in. Keyless drive will allow you not to have to search for the keys until you need to lock the car or get into your house. The system picked up the key signal well and would open/close/start without issues. The car also would beep at you when you close the driver’s door after turning the car off if you have left the keys in the car.

Child Safety Anchor points
Holden_ssv_redline_sportswagonThe Holden Commodore offers the ISOFIX child restraint systems on all three seats along with3 of the standard child safety anchor points. We had a booster and convertible baby car seat on the second row and were able to have my daughter sit comfortably in the middle. The size of the 2nd row seats are large and wide and you would be able to fit 3 car seats on it. The SSV Redline is also equipped with a seatbelt warning which tells you who in the 2nd row who is strapped in and will alert you when they unstrap while driving.

Rear Camera & Parking Sensors
The rear camera is a great feature and enables parents to park and reverse safety with reduced stress. I found the SSV Redline’s camera easy to view and see the picture from. The parking sensors are located front and back and are fantastic, giving you a good idea of exactly how close you are to your surroundings. Super intelligent, the SSV Redlines Rear Camera and sensors will advise if cars are approaching on either side that you should be aware of. Not only does it make parking much easier, it also means that you can spot rouge toys or children on the driveway when reversing.

Boot
With a 895 Litre boot capacity, the Holden Sportswagon offers a car big enough to cope with everyday family occurrences like trips to the park with bikes and prams. Large family grocery shopping is no issue and the boot will easily fit luggage and travel essentials for family holidays.
In addition to this, all the back seats have the ability to fold down giving you an added advantage when needing to get supplies for home DIY projects.

Capped Servicing Costs
One of the benefits with Holden vehicles is the Lifetime capped price servicing it offers. This helps keep the ongoing maintenance costs lower, beneficial to families managing a budget.

Overall the Holden SSV Redline Sportswagon is great fun to drive while easy to manoeuvre and park in suburban situations. The power behind the V8 combined with the Brembo performance brakes gave me a feeling of security, knowing that I can stop quickly or easily or accelerate with power with required. The SSV Redline Sportswagon comes with all the key features of today’s modern car with a number of extra intelligent features to keep you and your family safe.
