Home Organisation: Wardrobe

Organising your wardrobe can be hard to do when life is busy and as we are limited for time throughout the day, and to actually have the time of going through and sorting through your bedroom wardrobes that has clothing or shoes can be daunting but it is imperative to get structure in the bedroom closets. Here are some basic tips to keep on track of organising your wardrobe and having your clothes and shoes easier to locate:

1. Sorting through your clothes. First you must decide what clothes are going to be relevant to you and ones that you wear on a regular basis. We all buy new clothes and push the old clothes to the back which creates limited space. Therefore by organising and sorting through your wardrobes and cupboards on a regular basis this allows for organisation in the wardrobe and decluttering. You will need to sort through your wardrobe on a regular basis as trends change and your shape can change. So if you are going through your wardrobe and come across outfits that you haven’t worn for a long time – its time to donate or throw these items out.

2. Donate or Throw? What outfit now seems irrelevant to you could be someone else’s favourite outfit so donating items to a local charity is always beneficial – and the feeling of getting rid of clothes that have been cluttering up your wardrobe is a great feeling – a sense of relief. There is nothing like having a great clutter through your wardrobe and getting rid of items of clothing you no longer need. Give it a go and with each group of clothes you throw out treat yourself to something new. Its all about having structure and reorganising for you to easily access your clothes and shoes in your wardrobe.

3. Storing Items. Sometimes its the sentimental value of a piece of clothing which we want to hold on to, but it no longer has relevance – the trend has changed or it no longer fits you. With these items storing them away and sorting through them at a later date can be beneficial. Just make sure that if you think you will no longer wear the item again and donating it to charity or giving the piece of clothing to a friend of relative can have its benefits. A large plastic storage bin can home some of those items that you aren’t planning on wearing for a while and can be accessed easily if they are put in the attic or at the top of your wardrobe, you can also get some great storage bins that fit under your bed for clothes and they are more appealing to look at than cardboard boxes and can stack on top of each other more easily.

4. Shoes. We all collect them. But sometimes if they aren’t organised in your closet it can be really hard to match up a pair! Once you have sorted through your shoes prioritise the ones that you wear most often and place them in the front of your closet for easier access. Some shoes are only worn in certain seasons so its these ones that you must pack away and bring out when that season is upon us. There are some great shoe storage boxes out there on the market – so you can colour co-ordinate your shoes in boxes to get to easier. These shoe boxes allow for reorganisation and keeps your shoes in great order – and together! Placing a shoe rack in your wardrobe can help with structure and pairing up of your shoes.

5. Organisation. Clear the closet out, stand back and look at how you want to structure the whole wardrobe items and how you want it to look. You need to make your wardrobe visually appealing since you are actively going into it a few times a day. Maybe you need to put up some shelves to hold jewellery, hats, scarves or bags. Using baskets in the wardrobe can make it easy to access these smaller items and is pleasant on the eye. Painting the wardrobe to make it more personal is a good idea – choose a bright colour that is going to invigorate you every time you step inside the wardrobe. This way it shows that you are serious about reorganising your wardrobe on the way that you want it to look. The wardrobe in your bedroom needs to be personalised and resonate how you want to see your items when you choose your outfits every day.
