Kia Rondo Family Car
The Kia Rondo is a small car that packs a big punch and has changed my view of what a people mover car can be.
It offers a smaller sized car with associated benefits like increased manourverability, ease to park, and greater fuel economy with the flexibility to suit family lifestyles. This family car is big on the number of features that are included for a smaller price.
Drive
The Kia Rondo Platinum offers a 6 speed sportsmatic car with 18 inch alloys. To drive, the Rondo offers a pleasant, easy to drive family car, while the look and feel of the car is welcoming and friendly. The car says welcome and goodbye and if something is not right, it chimes at you instead of beeping. The lighting inside and outside the car is fantastic at night. You can see everything easily and it keeps the outside lights on for a little while after you lock the car so you can see where you are walking to.
The Rondo tends to rev high and be a little slow to change gears, however overall it will respond well to most acceleration requests. The car is quite fuel economic using an average of 12.5L/100km through suburban driving.
The car comes with front and rear parking sensors which work well, yet they would be better if the picture image was displayed on the 7 inch touchscreen rather than the display in front of the steering wheel. It also offers static cornering lamps which are great when driving at night as they highlight the road you are going into as you turn into it before your front lights hit the road.
The dash is has a 7 inch touch screen through which you can control your music, GPS, phone along with seeing the rear camera vision when reversing. The Bluetooth works well and is straightforward when pairing with your phone and when utilising it to dial numbers. The Bluetooth buttons on the dash are large and easy to push. You can also access and search through your phone’s contact list easily.
The Rondo Platinum offers dual zone air conditioning which can be set separately or synced easily. It also offers seat warming and cooling options for both the front seat driver and passenger. On the steering where there are a number of steering wheel mounted controls offering a quick ability to control your music, cruise control, Bluetooth and more. It even offers the option to heat the steering wheel in winter.
In terms of car features; the Rondo is packed with features to give families wanting the mod cons everything they need and more. It has a panoramic sunroof (which the children loved!), heated electric outside door mirrors with folding option, multi-function trip computer, leather seating and more
Family Friendly Features
Keyless Entry and Keyless Drive
The keyless entry is a fantastic addition to new cars as busy mums have the ability to open the car door and drive to your next location without having to find the keys. Then when you do have to find the keys, the rounded lock button is easy to identify and push without having to look at the actual keyring.
Child Anchor Points
There are 3 standard child anchor points and 2 ISOFIX anchor points. Although here are 3 anchor points, you would not be able to fit and buckle 3 car seats in on the second row. However we could fit 2 car seats and a child in the middle.
Side window Curtain Blinds
The Rondo comes complete with side window curtain blinds to shield your children from the sun’s rays. They disappear into the door and to use them, simply pull and hook up to the hooks at the top of the window. They are easy to hook on and off.
Entertainment seating
Similar to aeroplanes, the Rondo offers the ability for the side passengers in the second row to pull down tables that have a cup holder which the children can play/draw on. Designed for families, there is also a cargo net under this which they can keep their favourite toys in.
Versatile Seating – 7 seater
The Kia Rondo offers versatile seating options with all seats (apart from the drivers) being able to fold down. The seats are easy to fold down and put back up. It literally takes seconds, so it offers an ideal solution when needing to often change the configuration of the car if bringing friends home. As a 7 seater, the leg space in the third row of seats is smaller and more suitable for children than adults. It is nice that you have the ability to move the second row of seats to give the third row more leg space if needed. The Kia Rondo is ideal for a family wanting to only use the third row of seats occasionally.
Boot
When used as a 5 seater the boot space is 492L. As a 7 seater the boot space diminishes to only 103L which is very little yet not unusual for many 7 seaters. A redeeming factor that Kia has done is created additional storage crevices under the feet of the people in the second row. Whilst small, they will take some of the items you cannot fit into your boot and are easily accessible. Also as you can choose to have the car as a 6 or 7 seater; you have the ability to have half a boot which is ideal when needing only 6 seats and still wanting some boot space.
The Kia Rondo has evolved the ‘people mover’ from a bus like feel to something more compact, functional and indulgent. With an economical buy price; 7 year unlimited km warranty, loads of features, the Kia Rondo offers a great car for families looking for an occasional 7 seater.
