Lite n Easy – a step in maintaining my weight
As my age increases; my metabolism unfortunately continues to decrease and as a result I have noticed my weight climbing. I need to do something about this, yet as many mums would understand, this is easy to say and harder to follow through with.
As a busy mum, I don’t really have time to exercise, however the first step in my ‘manage my weight’ journey was to increase my exercise levels by walking laps around the oval a few times a week while the children are at sports training.
The second step is eating healthier and understanding portion controls and what I should be eating. To help me with this process I have decided to test and review Lite ‘n’ Easy. Lite ‘n’ Easy offer healthy meals designed to help you lose and manage your weight. Delivered to your door, they are developed by dietitians to ensure they are nutritionally balanced, calorie controlled and perfectly portioned.
Lite n Easy offer great assistance to determining which calorie plan you should be on. They offer three calorie plans and base their recommendations on your exercise levels, weight, age etc. I found the consultant very helpful and chose to go ahead with a two-week trial covering breakfast, lunch and dinner. I was put onto the 1200 calorie plan and the consultant helped me choose my meals, taking into account my choices and recommending others to balance food types/nutrients out.
Meal Choice:
The Breakfast and Lunch menu covers a 4-week cycle, each week offering two alternative breakfast and lunch choices. I found the choices easy to make and that there was quite a variety in offering. The Dinner menu offers a variety of 48 meals to choose from covering pasta’s, fish, modern Australian, traditional favourites and world classic cuisines. Once you have made your selections, you are advised of the delivery date. Delivery of the meals is done on a weekly basis and it comes in a Styrofoam box with dry ice to keep the frozen items cool should you be at work.
Meal Quality:
The Breakfast and Lunch menu comes separated into both refrigerate and freeze bags to ensure that the quality of the produce is optimised. I liked the fresh produce that was included and all the frozen items were easy to heat and eat. The menu that comes with the meals helps you determine all the components and highlights any frozen items in red so you don’t forget them. The meals are designed in a way that it is very easy to put together and can be done at home or at work with no issue. The directions are clear and it is very simple to follow the diet without confusion or frustration. For dinner, the meals are all in one meal box that can be put into the microwave and heated. While I don’t think the food can compare to freshly cooked meals, the quality of the meals was better than what I had expected from microwave food. They did not taste bad and had enough flavour in the sauces and vegetables.
My experience using Lite ‘n’ Easy
Although I was starving for much of the first week, I understood that this was my stomach adjusting to the new portions. The meals themselves are set out well and really easy to put together at meal time. The fact that everything is included (expect for skim milk) makes it so simple and easy to follow without taking shortcuts or getting it wrong.
On the healthier Lite ‘n’ Easy diet, I noticed a number of beneficial outcomes; in particular, I had less bloating and my digestive system was working better. I really liked the breakfast and lunch menus and think that they offer a fantastic all-inclusive solution for busy mums looking for healthy breakfast and lunch alternatives.
As I did not use Lite ‘n’ Easy to lose weight, I gained valuable knowledge from this process and feel that Lite ‘n’ Easy has offered me the ability to take stock of my eating habits. I have learnt that my portions are not too far off what they should be; however, my snacking is really an issue and that I should include some healthier foods into my diet. The trial helped me to understand how I could eat in a healthier way and many of their meals were eye opening with ideas on what breakfasts and lunches should be like.
My Recommendations:
For busy mums, Lite ‘n’ Easy offers a convenient way to start a healthier journey to either lose weight or maintain a healthier diet.
I would recommend mums that are interested in Lite ‘n’ Easy do a 1-2-week trial covering breakfast, lunch and dinner to realign your body to where it should be. From there you can determine if you want to continue with Lite ‘n’ Easy for every meal or perhaps only for the Breakfast and Lunch Menus as it can be frustrating at dinner time when you have to cook a separate meal for your family as well.
