Mini Beanz Newborn Bean Bag – Hands-On Review
The Mini Beanz Newborn Bean Bag offers a Stylish and Quality Alternative to a Baby Rocker. We were delighted when our Newborn+ bean bag from Mini Beanz arrived. It was beautifully packaged too. The bean bag itself is amazing – super quality fabric and all of the necessary Australian safety regulations for the littlies.
I bought the beans from Kmart easily enough and used just under one 100 litres bag. The instructions for filling the Mini Beanz Bean Bag were included in the bag. However if you are like me, ignoring the general tip with the bath tub and can’t wait for a friend or family member to help with the filling, than the other option is to position the opening between two chairs or against a stable surface so that it does not tip over while being filled. One tip with this is to shake the bean bag so that the filling is distributed evenly. Half an hour later and there we had our super new bean bag which takes pride of place in the kid’s playroom. Mini Beanz bean bags have a separate inner bag to contain the beans so the outer cover can be removed and washed easily. I like that it is machine washable.
Our baby loved it straight away! Because it is a bean bag rather than a foam style chair she can really get herself comfortable and is fully supported. She can have a wriggle around without the danger of falling off since the Newborn+ bean bag has a safety harness to secure the baby, just like any normal baby seat/rocker/swing.
Baby is so comfortable on the bean bag that it is the one place she will really settle. It is so handy to be able to pop her down and, because the bean bag has an easy to use carry handle and is lightweight I can take it around the house with me. I even take it with me for our weekly mothers group catch-up! I really like that I can lay her down, however, I can also sit her up a little when she is just wanting to relax and have a look around, which is great for babies that suffer from reflux as you can prop them up after a feed. It also has a side pocket to keep your babies dummy or soft toy in.
The cover material is really soft and comfortable with a waterproof backing and because the tops easily zip off they can be washed too. The base material has a really nice pattern and can be wiped clean which is very useful as I like to take it out into the garden, so if it gets a little dirty, I can just wipe it clean.
I love that Mini Beanz have ingeniously designed the bean bag to cater for older babies and toddlers, extending its usability time window! An easy zip off top cover changes the bean bag from infant use with a harness, to toddler use without the harness. In fact Mini Beanz say the bean bag will last through to pre-teens.
We haven’t had the bean bag long enough to test for any long term benefits, but so far it seems to be really comfortable, and it fits baby really well.
Obviously the bean bags are designed for babies and toddlers so they will be grown out of eventually, but so will a baby bouncer, baby carrier or any other baby product. The Mini Beanz is a high-quality product with a price tag to match, but if you consider the years of use your child (or even multiple kids) will get from it, it’s a great investment!
