New Zodiac Sign: Myths

Recently, an article released by NASA in 2016 began trending and in the article, it announced it was adding a new sign to the zodiac sign sequence that has been forever ignored.

The 13th sign, Ophiucus is the new addition that many astrologers have actually known about for a long time. This news has sparked a lot of debate about the validity of astrology and has confused a lot of people as to what their sun sign truly is and the meaning of their new birth chart.

It’s important to understand that astrology is a system, similar to life path numbers. A tool to help us understand the realm we live in from our personal, spiritual and physical standpoints. My Zodiac Lover is a great resource to help understand how important astrology is for your relationship with lovers and friends.

Just as there are several systems and perspectives to observe and study life from including psychology, religion, and various philosophies, astrology can be viewed from many viewpoints such as different house systems or Vedic or Western astrology, Sidereal and Tropical.

Within these different systems, you have different placements, and a lot of times we can see these energies within ourselves in each one. Most of us choose the system we were originally taught or that we resonate with the most, but no system is right or wrong. There are just different viewpoints just as you can view life from different angles and there are many ways to see life.

So by NASA adding Ophicus to the zodiac, which changes the dates of the signs, is only another system that can be used to help people resonate with getting to know themselves through astrology.

It’s so interesting that Ophiucus is getting attention now. It’s energy and what it represents is heavily needed and very relative to the huge shifts we’re currently experiencing through lockdowns, pandemics, uncertain economies, racial division and governmental protests.

Ophiucus is a water feminine energy that represents the emotional side of humans and is opposite to the Orion constellation that is a warrior masculine energy representing our physical side. Ophiucus works on healing and transforming emotional and spiritual traumas while Orion is earthy, action-oriented and collects resources.

Is there a new zodiac sign 2020?

As mentioned before, the awareness of the Ophiucus constellation has been known for a very long time. There are several constellations within each sign. Ophiucus is a large constellation within the signs of Scorpio and Sagittarius.

Scorpio is about the deeper aspects of life and transforming through endings, letting go and ego deaths. Ophiucus transforms or heals these shadow parts of the human self(Scorpio) so that we become lighter, wiser and optimistic(Sagittarius).

The Sagittarius and Ophiucus constellations are positioned at the galactic center of the Milky Way. It is a transformation point for planets that travel through this area and brings about expansive awareness.

The Scorpio element is also about rebirth and regeneration. Ophiucus is the assistant that helps heal the traumas that occur through the Scorpio transit. Sagittarius is the truth-seeker who asks the big life questions. After letting go of the parts of your life that no longer serve you in Scorpio, you have to discover what is true to you with the energy of Ophiucus and begin to live and experience those truths authentically through Sagittarius. Ophiucus is about accepting our lower selves and shadow sides and healing them as a result of our awareness of them.

This constellation is known as “The Serpent Bearer” which symbolizes accepting our sabotaging ego selves and using our shadows to become healed, stronger and powerful. It’s about not letting your ego get you stuck from ascending and expanding.

Serpents constantly shed their skin. This can be a metaphor for peeling away old layers of mindset so we can feel free to explore what else is out there.

People who have planets such as their sun, moon or ascendant in the Ophiucus constellation experience very personally life themes of:

  •     Regeneration
  •     Self-healing and healing others
  •     Gaining bigger perspectives on life
  •     Restoration of spirit

After a planet travels through Ophiucus, it enters Sagittarius where it experiences a new philosophy and liberation.

Is Ophiuchus a real Zodiac?

Yes and no. Ophiucus falls in between the dates of November 29th to December 17th. It is positioned in between the signs Scorpio and Sagittarius and Ophiucus takes on the traits of both of these signs. Ophiucus has blended into Sagittarius and Sagittarius takes on all the traits of Ophiucus. Ophiucus doesn’t actually bring anything new to their qualities, but it shines a light on how to bring these two energies together to maximize the full potential of Sagittarius and Scorpio.

Sagittarius Zodiac

In Western astrology, consider it as being born on a Sagittarius cusp. Any birthday that falls in between two signs will embody the traits of both signs. Someone born on the cusp of Sagittarius will embody both Scorpio and Sagittarius energies.

If you were born when your sun was in the Ophiucus constellation and you resonate with its traits, this is okay. It’s another way to comprehend and work with our human complexities.

If you are interested in this 13th sign, it’s a good idea to experiment with your own life and factor Ophiucus into your reality by taking on these energies and how your birth chart has changed to see if it’s true to you. Be curious about it and see how you resonate with this added 13th sign.

It is perfectly fine to stick with what you know your chart to be and although NASA has made this change, which is relevant, it doesn’t mean that your life experiences you’ve based on cosmic energies are now untrue.
