Philips AirFryer

Having constantly been disappointed with the outcome of typical oven chips- never quite tasting the best; either over cooked or not cooked enough, I have longed to test the AirFryer, hoping it would solve my chip issues. Interestingly, you can also cook a number of items in the AirFryer including meat, desserts and roasts.

Its Cooking Ability

Upon receipt of the Philips AirFryer, I couldn’t wait to start testing it, so that night we put it to work.

Oven Chips: It has reduced the cooking time we have for Oven Chips from over 1 hour to 25 minutes! Not only that; the chips tasted amazing. We push the AirFryer to the max each time by always loading 750g (max amount) into it and I have been pleasantly surprised at how all the chips are cooked throughout the basket.

Spring Rolls: Another perfect result. The Spring Rolls were crispy and delicious – friends couldn’t believe that we got them so crispy without frying them. They also tasted a lot better and much less oily.

Vegemite Scrolls: My token to testing its baking ability was to put some Vegemite scrolls, made from Puff Pastry, into the AirFryer. I also put some into our oven at the same time and found the result interesting. The AirFryer ones cooked much faster and because the air moves around the food during the cooking process, it cooked more evenly. I found the tops of the scrolls cooked faster and more thoughrally in the AirFryer compared to those in the Oven.

philips-airfryer-reviewChips from Potatoes: It’s a tough gig to follow the Oven Chips, but really how else can you test the AirFryers ability to cook chips without creating them from scratch. Following the instructions provided with the AirFryer, the potato chips turned out well; a little crispy on the outside and cooked all the way through.

Overall Functionality

The Philips AirFryer offers a good versatile product. Utilising the timer, you can adjust the cooking time and there is another button to adjust the temperature. Most of all I love that both the pan and basket can be cleaned in the dishwasher.

In addition to the AirFryer being healthier than ‘frying’ your items, after cooking in it, you can see the excess oils and fats from the foods that have dripped to the bottom pan and been removed in the Air Frying process, making the food even healthier.

According to Philips, you can grill, bake and roast in the AirFryer. Unfortunately, the grill and roast cooking options are not suitable for us as the maximum capacity for the proteins isn’t large enough to meet our family demands. As a family of five, this model’s basket capacity is a little small with a max capacity of 750g. So we were more than happy to utilise this for side dishes and snack options. The good news is that Philips do have a larger model available.

Overall I love the Philips AirFryer and have found it useful in the day to day cooking and when impromptu entertaining occurs as it is so quick and easy to put out some nuggets or spring rolls for the kids. It also offers a quick and easy way to warm up food or create a quick afternoon snack.
