Philips StyleCare Auto-Rotating Airstyler

I’ve had the exciting opportunity to play, I mean experiment, with my hair in front of the mirror for an extended period of time this week with a great excuse! Introducing to you, the very stylish-looking Philips StyleCare Auto-Rotating Airstyler.

Basically, the StyleCare is a multi-functional hair styler which uses hot air to create volume and curl, as well as having an attachment to pre-dry hair.

philips-stylecare-airstyler-reviewUpon opening the box, I found 3 separately wrapped attachments; the wand; a hair sectioning comb and a LOT of instruction papers! I instantly felt like packing it away: it looked so overwhelming! However, I think the instructions must be written in every language possible, as only a small portion are actually in English, which was a relief.

I found it quite easy to secure the attachments to the wand: it was very self-explanatory. I also noted the warning label very visible on the cord not to use it near water which I commend: we all need the occasional reminder at times! Which brings me to the 1.8m cord length, and the fact that the cord swivels: it was fantastic having a bit of room to move whilst concentrating on perfecting my look. Someone has thought that aspect through very well!

The first attachment I tried was the Concentrator of the air-styler. It’s important to note it’s not an actual hair dryer, as this would take forever! It’s designed for pre-drying your hair in preparation for using the styling attachments. It was easy to attach and use, and there are three different heat settings, including a cool setting for finishing off your style at the end. I found this particularly useful for setting my hair and drying my mousse when I was in a hurry.

The next attachment was my absolute favourite: The Thermo Brush. Incredibly easy to use, with absolutely no previous experience necessary (I can vouch for this!). The brush can rotate either way: I discovered that styling from beneath created great volume then using the brush on the top to gently smooth any fly-aways left me with voluptuous and shiny hair, which felt incredibly light. It took me less than 2 minutes without instructions to perfect using the thermo brush, and I was grinning ear to ear the entire time. My only irk with the brush is that it’s quite easy to overload and the brush unclipped itself and fell to the floor a few times at first. However, I’m giving the benefit of the doubt here as it could well be a case of trial and error and getting to know my styler.

The results were fantastic and I’ve used it every day since receiving the Philips StyleCare Auto-Rotating Airstylerphilips-stylecare-airstyler-review1 to give even just my fringe a quick boost before heading out the door!

The final attachment was the Automatic Air Curl Attachment. I didn’t have any success whatsoever with this attachment. My hair is very fine and I’ve not used a curler before, so it could be better suited for someone with hair that is easier to curl. So I tested it on a friend too, unfortunately also with no luck at all which was frustrating. One thing I did like about the Curl attachment was that my hair r became entangled a few times, and there are clips that can be opened on the attachment to easily remove my hair without tearing it all out!

Overall, I’d say it’s a good beginner’s multi-functional hair styler. As I couldn’t get my hair to curl, personally I’d be more inclined to recommend trying an Automatic Hot Air Brush that has only the one function and does it well. I feel that the Philips StyleCare Auto-Rotating Airstyler could be improved with a bit more turning power to avoid overloading the brush too easily.
