I was excited to take my son to trial the Ready Steady Go Kids multi-sport program for toddlers. When we arrived I was impressed at the immediate rapport the instructor established with my son taking away all nerves and making him feel comfortable and noticed that throughout the class both instructors were constantly involving all the children and ensuring that each child was happy and not left out.

There was a little child who didn’t want to join in and participate and it was nice to see the coaches immediately identify the issue and speak to the child, encouraging him to join in and giving him space until he was also ready to participate. I was especially glad that as there were two coaches this didn’t impact upon the remainder of students as they continued to play and learn without waiting for anyone else.

They started the lesson with a warm-up which was packed with kid-appropriate moves like the Bear crawl, frog jumps and crocodile snaps. This was followed by stretches and then some hitting practice with a cricket bat. We went in a week where the sport of focus was cricket, however throughout the program; Ready Steady Go Kids offer the ability for children to learn about all sports, changing the curriculum to a new sport every two weeks.

As we were in the cricket week, we learnt about batting and throwing the ball. This unique teaching method of numerous sports ensures that your child learns a range of fine and gross motor skills. It can also help them to understand which sports they like and are good at while teaching them to listen and learn.

It was also good to see that throughout the lesson the children interacted well with both the coaches and their other classmates, developing social skills. They also learned to pick up after themselves and some numeracy as the coaches got the children to pick up 5 balls after each turn.

The classes are run in age-specific groups and are suitable for both boys and girls.
