The SmarTrike Explorer 5 trikes in 1 is a stroller and tricycle, all in one.

For little ones from the age of 10 months old it is a stroller, with a supported backrest and 110° reclining seat for naps when out and about. The smarTrike has features which helps encourage development of coordination with easy transition to a trike at 24 months old. The handlebar is accessorised with a play phone which develops your baby’s imagination and motor skills, keeping them entertained if they fuss along the ride.

One of my dear friends purchased a SmarTrike and says she and her 20 month old absolutely love it. So, I was looking forward to having one of my own. With simple instructions it wasn’t too painful to put together and the entire time my 15 month old was busting with excitement as she could see the SmarTrike form.

Before we knew it, off we were gallivanting in our new SmarTrike and I think the concept of a stroller which transforms with your child’s developmental stages is great. The seat is comfortable and she loved being upright with the open sides so she can see around us.

When using the SmarTrike, I found it fine across flat, smooth surfaces yet rougher surfaces were trickier to manage.

Given her age, we used the SmarTrike in “Stroller Mode”. In this mode, steering and pedaling is available for her to attempt, yet because of her ability, my daughter is not able to manage the pedals and is a bit old and big for the fixed foot bars. Being a transitional product, I have been advised that this is the ‘between’ stage, and in a few months’ time she will be able to manage the pedals which will make the ride smoother. The SmarTrike comes with a three year warranty, a safety brake, anti-slip foot pedals and safety harness. It is suitable for children from 10 months to 3 years old.

Overall, the SmarTrike wasn’t suited for my daughter and I, whether it was my driving, the trike itself or her as the passenger I’m not sure, however I can see how others enjoy it though and would recommend testing it instore to see if it is right for you.
