Winter Weekend Programs with your Teenage Kids

The cold weather can make us feel like we are constantly trapped indoors. A lot of people feel like there isn’t anything that they can do in winter, but that’s not true at all. Winter is a special time of the year when you get to be a part of so many activities that you cannot do during any other time. There are beautiful sights that you can only see in winter that just cannot be missed. There isn’t a better time to bond with your family than in winter because there are a lot of family activities that each individual can participate in. Teenagers might get easily bored, but they won’t be when they are also a part of these exciting events.

Winter Sports

There are a lot of sports that you can only participate in during winter, and your kids are going to be so excited to play all these different wintertime sports with you. You can go skiing, snowboarding, sledding, ice skating, or even snowmobiling. It is very easy to find public spaces that you can practice these sports in. Having fun with your family is very essential for you to bond and create new memories together. A lot of people underestimate family quality time, and others think that playing games is not a part of that, but they couldn’t be more wrong. Playing games with your family is one of the best things you can do to help you get closer and build a stronger bond.

Snow Painting

If you and your family are naturally artistic or just enjoy playing with snow, then you will love to snow paint together. You don’t need much with this one, all you need to have are bottles filled with colored water. Make sure you have all the colors that you might need. A lot of people think of snow as an empty canvas, which might help you feel inspired enough to work on your art piece. Imagine you and your family gathering around, discussing your ideas, or maybe even competing with each other and judging whose art piece is best. The best thing about snow painting is that you don’t need to travel to another place or book a space to do that; you can just get out of your house and start squirting paint on the ice.

Whale Watching

There isn’t a better time to go whale watching than in winter; it is a unique experience to watch these majestic creatures passing by. One of the best places you can whale watch is Australia; it is known for its Great Barrier Reef, which is located in Queensland that is above Sydney. This affects the whales’ migration, which means that anyone who is in Sydney by the ocean can easily spot them. There are a few places where you can book a ticket, where you can easily find out where to go whale watching in Sydney; fortunately Sydney’s famous for its numerous whale watching-cruises, so there is no excuse for you to miss this one of a kind event.

Ice Fishing

Feeling like a one-on-one activity? Why not consider ice fishing? Fishing needs a lot of patience because people usually take a long time till they get the satisfying catch they’re after, but you can use this opportunity to talk with your little ones and get to know them on a deeper level. You can also have fun spotting a place where you can ice fish. Another thing you can do is to teach them how to fish if they don’t know how; you can also teach them new techniques. You and your group can enjoy being around nature while drinking hot cocoa in the cold weather. Make sure to take a lot of pictures, especially if that is their first time fishing.

Stargazing

Winter can get very cold at times, especially at night. The strong wind and the freezing weather can make it very difficult for you to have some time outside. But, there are a lot of ways for you to combat it. For instance, if you want to chill outside and maybe stargaze for a little bit, but everything is too cold, you can gather around a bonfire to keep you warm. You can also always come prepared with heavy blankets and extra-padded jackets. There is no better way to spend time, especially when you are stargazing. Bonding with your kids beneath the night sky is priceless; it is a great chance for you to open various conversations and listen to what they have to say. Bonus tip: you can always turn it into a s’mores night; just make sure you pack all the ingredients you need beforehand.

Photo Scavenger Hunt

One of the simplest things that you can do with your family is to have a winter photo scavenger hunt. All you need to do is to gather your family members and create a list together; this list can have anything that you would consider interesting enough. This can be a lot of fun because there are specific things that you can only find in winter. For instance, there are certain plants that only grow in winter. Plus there are animals that only come out in winter and let’s not forget all the frozen lakes and beautiful scenery that you are going to be exposed to on that hunt. Your list can entail anything from a plant with berries, a woodpecker hole, to clouds over the sun, and a bent tree.

There are a lot of activities that you can arrange and enjoy with your family. You can discuss which ones you would all like to join in on the weekend. Activities such as these are very vital for you and your kids, especially after a long hectic week at school, university, or work when you didn’t get enough time to sit together or even bond properly. Which makes the weekends the perfect time for you to talk, play, and discover new things together. So, why not give it a shot?
