YOGI FUN – Yoga games for kids
YOGI FUN offers yoga-inspired games and activity ideas for young children right through to adults!
We received the beautifully illustrated deck of cards, as well as the tube of dice to try in our home. Yoga has seen incredible growth in the US and around the world for its health benefits and accessibility.
The introduction of Yoga to children benefits their development: emotionally, cognitively, physically and socially.
The YOGI FUN cards come in a deck containing 40 cards: half the cards have large illustrations of yoga poses and the other half correspond to the first half but also have a lovely rhyming instruction as to how to complete the Yoga pose. On the Instruction Card, there are several game ideas to play with your little ones, including our favourite: Memory.
If your kids are excited about yoga, they might also love this tutorial on how to draw a yoga pose.
I found YOGI FUN to be a really enjoyable way to spend an hour or so with the kids: I had no idea how badly my body needs to stretch!
I love watching the kids try to recreate the poses as they find a pair. I think my favourite thing about YOGI cards is the freedom and possibilities! On top of all the usual favourite basic card games (think Memory, Snap, Go Fish…), there are further suggestions in the instruction booklet, as well as on the YOGI FUN website, if you’re looking for something different to try. Or just give your kids the reins and allow them to invent their own game! 🙂
The YOGI FUN Dice are easily accessible in a tube-style packaging, which also make them portable and perfect for those picnics and plays at the park! A great way to connect with nature and stretch those ever-active bodies, YOGI FUN Dice offer many different games and uses. My boys love rolling the dice and seeing what will come up next, and some of the poses really had them concentrating on what they were doing. It was great to watch them fully engage and enjoy their play. More often than not the boys are happy to play with the dice as they are, without any set instructions. It’s taken me a few years to work out that this is fine, even necessary, for their growth both physically and mentally. The possibilities are endless when it comes to uses for the YOGI FUN Dice. The pictures are simple and easy to understand, and are aesthetically pleasing.
For my Family, I found that free play is the best way to utilise the YOGI FUN Cards and Dice: in fact, the kids relish in taking turns to make up games that we then all play!
We now use YOGI FUN as a way to start our mornings: we each roll a dice at the same time and do our poses together. We do this a few times, sometimes swapping dice if we feel like it. It’s such a peaceful way to start the day, and I’ve been feeling a lot happier and centred as our hectic morning routine is kick-started…and it can take as little or as much time as we have to spare! Everybody has a minute at least…I do lay out a towel and the boys lay out one each also, just to keep them a little more focused on what we’re doing to keep them from getting distracted between poses: it’s amazing how such a small thing can make so much difference!
My 4 and 6 year old sons absolutely love YOGI FUN, because it gives them the opportunity to master something new and combines something that is usually a stationary game with mild physical activity. It’s certainly helping to strengthen their core muscles and improve their focus. I’m so pleased that YOGI FUN is in our lives. 🙂
